I’ve been told several times in the past year that I am a ‘serial entrepreneur’.
Basically, I can’t stop creating things: businesses, books, online courses…
It’s part of my nature to create. It’s part of all of our natures to create. But it’s where we direct the energy that can prove problematic.
Often, I create one service just to feed another. Courses finance book production or coaching finances art…
This past week I’ve had the recurring thought:
I’d be of more value to my family and the planet if I STOPPED trying to get somewhere.
Pulled my energy in and directed it only where it is of most benefit: to myself, others and the planet.
I believe we get caught up in the energy of accomplishment rather than creativity.
What if we redirected that energy?
What if we invested in richer relationships with ourselves, our family members and friends? Higher levels of consciousness? Greater practices of self-care, service, preservation, restoration and recovery?
What if we didn’t accumulate: more clothing, furniture, gadgets, a cute pair of boots in every colour because they were on sale?
What if we dismantled what is excessive, unnecessary or not of benefit? Made room for what is?
What if we took a hard look at what we are trying to accomplish and its true impact on ourselves and the planet?
I had the great honour of retreat in Cape Breton this past spring with Lama Tsultrim Allione, the author of Wisdom Rising: Journey into the Mandala of the Empowered Feminine.
In the Mandala of the 5 Dakinis, each Dakini resides in a particular direction within the mandala. The Dakini that resides in the West is Padma Dakini. She is red.
Padma Dakini is the embodiment of the transformation of craving into discernment.
That energy feels like an accurate assessment of the West.
There is a craving. Maybe it began with the American Dream. And many advancements have happened due to this craving (for a better life, better quality of health, equality, education, freedom…).
But craving has an insatiable appetite.
It is time to look closely at our accomplishments, for much of our progress comes at a cost to the planet, its species and one another.
It is time for discernment.
It is time to transform the energy of craving into enriching our lives and the lives of others : ALL others on the planet. All species.
And there has never been a more empowering time to do so.
Know that when you transform this energy for yourself, you open the door for others.
Your energy is unique. It is precious. It is powerful. And it is limitless.
Judge well.
Direct it with wisdom and compassion. Where is it most of benefit?
“How can we stop our fear, despair, anger, and craving? We can stop by practicing mindful breathing, mindful walking, mindful smiling, and deep looking in order to understand. When we are mindful, touching deeply the present moment, the fruits are always understanding, acceptance, love, and the desire to relieve suffering and bring joy.”
~The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching: Transforming Suffering into Peace, Joy, and Liberation
Where does craving have you spinning your wheels? Chewing through resources and eating up your time and energy?
You are the director of your life. Your precious gift of a life. Direct your energy well.
