“When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.”
Alexander Graham Bell
This quote, etched in a small glass frame, sat on the counter in my home studio for over a decade. Last year, I opted to allow it to find a new home and a new person to inspire.
Today, I let go of my back jacks: the 6 meditation chairs I have owned for nearly as long as that etched frame.
A friend’s daughter is beginning her life as a yoga teacher. She reached out to the local yoga community, looking for props to support her workshop participants.
When you know, you know.
Some tiny voice inside me said, “Give her the chairs.”
I loved those super comfy folding seats. I remember when I ordered them: beginning my own life as a yoga/meditation teacher. For nearly 10 years, they supported the butts of our weekly More than Meditation women’s group. We covered every topic under the spiritual sun… nothing was taboo.

For the past 2 years, they doubled as seats for my Friday morning writers’ circle. The stories they have supported!
But I wrapped up the meditation circle last spring; the writers’ circle before December.
The energy had been waning. My heart knew that the door was nearly closed on both groups. My mind just needed to pull its foot out of the way and allow it to shut completely.
I blessed the back jacks as they left my home this morning, knowing they will go on to support others rather than collect dust in my studio storage room.
With them gone, I finally feel inspired to go through the rest of the studio and storage room to see what else wants a new home.
I consider it cleaning up the hallway between the 2 doors: the one I finally allowed to close, and the one that’s round and open, ready for me to enter.
They will be loved and are now free to support others. ‘Cleaning up the hallway between the two doors.’ I’ll be pondering that statement for hours. ❤
