AYURVEDA looks to Nature in order to understand our own nature: the five elements – earth, water, fire, air and space – that exist within each one of us in different quantities and combinations.
Ayurveda recognizes these elements through the three doshas: Vata (Air & Space), Pitta (Fire & Water) and Kapha (Earth & Water). While all three doshas are present in each of us, we likely have one or two dominant dosha(s) that provide our unique physical, mental and emotional characteristics.
Vata? Pitta? Kapha? What is your basic constitution?
In this workshop, you will identify your prikruti (individual constitution) and dominant dosha(s), and learn the best foods, practices and self-care choices to balance your health.
When you understand your basic constitution, you no longer fall prey to fads and the latest diet or exercise craze. You know the conditions and foods that are optimal for YOU to maintain balance. You understand which conditions pull you off balance and you make simple adjustments to restore wellbeing through self-care.
While we manage our individual nature, or constitution, there are also the seasons to be considered. Each season expresses a particular combination of doshas and can contribute to excess qualities of those doshas, pulling us off balance, (or nudging us toward balance, depending upon your unique constitution), as the seasons change. A predominantly pitta person may struggle with the heat of summer yet find the cooling season of fall naturally nourishing.
As the seasons change, it is important to modify our diet in order to maintain balance. The salads that kept you cool in the heat of summer may not serve you as well in the midst of winter. Ayurveda shines a light on maintaining harmony year-round.
Once you understand your unique constitution, you hold the key to balance.
